October 2008
HI, I have just arrived back from overseas where I was trying to catch up with Richard Branson to see if he would sponsor my book "Hot TIps for the business Traveler".
I wrote the book over winter and will be launching in the new year now. It provides the reader with lots of fantastic tips on saving time while traveling and incorporating fun into the corporate world. More importantly it gives sound advice on how to avoid the death traps and health traps that are so tempting when away on business trips.
I flew over to London to attempt a meeting with Richard Branson so that he might sponsor the book and provide his photo on the front and contribute his top 50 tips. I was also asking that he sell in on Virgin Atlantic and that i received 1.5 poounds per book sold and the remainder go towards charity. In the first year I calculated that we would raise a whopping 65 Million pounds for charity!
I made it as far as his corporate branding guys but didn't get to meet the man himself. So now i have been home a week, the idea still feels good and achievable, so I will try again. If you have any leads for me, please let me know.... an in-road with Richard would be great at this point .

A lot is happening with Sanxing. I am updating the website, I am starting a new website www.healthywealthymastery.com and starting the Bridget Jones meets Sam Beau Patrick "get fit, lose fat for summer campaign". That's right, you can watch me over the next 7 weeks, hopefully transform this (nearly 40) body back into some sort of shape. It will be posted on blogger, You Tube and this website.
The new website is free for now (eventually will be membership based at a token amount for the brilliant, handy and up-to-date advice given). It will include diets, daily recipes and shopping lists, hints for parents, a kids mentoring program and other exciting motivational and advice that if used, will TRANSFORM your life!
The Get Fit, Lose Fat campaign starts in earnest on Thursday 16th October when i have some measurements taken. Yes measurements and photos will be made available for all on the above mentioned websites.
I am offering some awsome specials for October and have a survey i'd love you to fill in. The survery is on the www.healthywealthymastery.com website. If you could give it a go, it will only take 5 minutes and in return I'd like to give you a foot spa detox (valued at $35).
You can read more about the specials on the special page..
1. Fat loss cellular health readings - only $38 or ($30 for cash)
2. Triathlete and keen sports people nutrition only assessments $150 for 2 sessions and 2 cellular health readings
3. Home visits (see under new patient listings and specials)
The other exciting thing I have started is "Patient of the Month". This week  I had an appointment with a really inspirational lady who has made some massive improvements in the last 2 months. You can read more about her and her cellular health analysis' under the "Patient of the Month" tab.
Have fun and enjoy health and if those things aren't abundant in your life, call me.

2008 Referral and rewards program

I believe I have one of the best jobs in the world, namely because I love what I do and it really doesn’t feel like work. I have had lots of help from you, my current patients, and I feel very honored when you refer friends and family to me. Please find enclosed this year’s referral and rewards program. It’s my little way of saying thank-you.

New website

The website has been update so please have a look on www.sanxing.com.au J

New Ionising Foot spa detox

This 30 min treatment is now being offered with your choice of DVDs to watch (including Seinfeld, An inconvenient Truth, the Secret) or  relaxing music to unwind to. The spa detox uses ionic exchange to draw out unwanted and harmful toxic matter from your body. Treatments are $35 or only an extra $25 with a follow-up appointment.

Fee increases

Unfortunately the first increase in 3 years is needed. Hopefully these will be offset by having a HICAPS machine available for those with private health cover  (so you can receive your  rebate on the spot) as well an EFTPOS and Credit Card Facility.

New patient consultations are now $138 (includes free cellular health assessment). Follow-ups are $98 which includes appointment and a 30 min detox foot spa and cellular health analysis or $73 for  a straight forward appointment. Cellular health analysis remains the cheapest on the coast at an extra $10 per consultation.

As always I am trying to better the service, atmosphere and care you receive at Better Health. Your feedback is always appreciated. I look forward to seeing you soon,                    Sam Beau Patrick

7 steps to preparing a healthy lunch for Kids

Do you find it challenging, frustrating and maybe overwhelming trying to find healthy affordable school snacks and foods that the kids will eat?

One of my passions as a nutritionist and mother of 3, is childhood nutrition. I believe childhood nutrition has become one of the greatest challenges affecting parents today. Kids are bombarded with advertising on telly,  packagin on foods can be misleading and big food take away companies have baited our darlings with toy-give-aways that keep them demanding more. It is tough!

Basic guidelines are a great way to start. 5 vegies/2 fruit per day is a wonderful initiative . Ensure 3 good (main) meals and 3 snack sessions. Often children will graze so snacks form an important part of the nutritive load for the day.

Other important considerations:

  1. Convenience
  2. Palatability  for the child (they must like eating it)
  3. cost effective
  4. and is it healthy

When you go shopping there are few things on the aisle shelves that fulfill the above. BUT we do owe it to our children, to give them a healthy start and food is where it starts. PS we also need to lead by example, as children will mimic our eating habits.

7 steps to preparing a healthy lunch

1. buy all the things you need for the week on a Sat/.Sun

2. prepare all lunches on a Sunday night (it will only take an hour – as aposed to an hour every night)

3. freeze lunches and even put into separate containers before freezing if you can

4. allow one day a week for a treat (eg, scroll, pizza slice etc)

5. keep it simple and repeatative – if the menu is healthy and the kids love it, don’t vary it. They don’t need it

6. write little messages to your children. Eg “well done on being a healthy bear and eating all your yummy lunch” etc.

7. have “cute” names for foods eg: nuts can be ducks nuts, seeds bird food, etc.

Some lunch and snack suggestions

Snacks

-         nuts (almonds, pecan nuts, walnuts, macadamias)

-         seeds (sunflower, pepitas, sesame)

-         date logs or natural fruit logs (watch for colours though)

-         rice crackers and cheese

-         cheese sticks

-         boiled eggs

-         fruit

-         popcorn

-         bliss balls

Lunches

-         sandwiches (rye, multigrain or non-wheat much better than white)

-         left overs

-         tuna bake

-         sushi

-         salads

-         quiche

-         ploughman’s lunch (make an attractive lunch with celery and carrot sticks, cheese cubes, ham or chicken breast and dollop of mayonnaise)

-         celery with philly cheese

-         fruit salad

 The end :)

The change of life—Menopause

Menopause Def: the termination of the menstrual cycle.

This succinct definition from my old faithful medical book makes the process of menopause seem like something ladies wake up and decide to do in one day and then it is over. Hah!  Many ladies take 5-10 years to become post menopausal.

The actual accepted definition of menopause is: 12 months since your last period. Occasionally women will have an isolated period after this time (which is normal) and will still be considered post menopausal. When a lady is experiencing symptoms of menopause (ie going through menopause) she is said to be peri-menopausal. The average time a lady will enter menopause is 45 years old and most have finished by 55. Some women will start menopause in their 30s and others  are still having periods until 60. It is very individual.

When females are born they have a finite number of eggs (ova) in their ovaries. At about  45 years of age, the ova are used up and/or the ovaries start to shrink. Oestrogen , progesterone, testosterone and DHEA levels all change. This is why symptoms are experienced.

Let’s talk about some symptoms.

The first sign that you may be peri menopausal is  a change in your period . It may shorten, lengthen, become heavier or irregular. Other symptoms can vary from flashes (hot feeling), flushes (hot feeling plus sweating), red face, creepy feeling under your skin, dry skin, dry vagina, low libido, sugar cravings, weight gain, mood swings, anxiety, palpitations, depression, headaches, fatigue and many others. Rest assured, all of these symptoms are common.

Some ladies will talk about it and others choose not to.

How can you pass through this time easier?

There are many things to try.

Medically you can try HRT but there may be side effects, so you need to discuss this with you doctor.

Naturally there are many effective ways that may help you with symptoms. Some herbs used by Sanxing are Black Cohosh, Chaste Tree, Wild Yam, Sage, Zizyphus and St Marys.  Dietary changes include increasing your consumption of phytooestrogens (isoflavones) by eating soy products, linseeds and green leafy vegetables.

Exercise and yoga (or other relaxation methods) are high on the list of lifestyle options you can try.

Every lady is different and will have different hormonal needs. Don’t despair if you have tried a few things with no success, we are here to help you with this time and to make the transition easier.

Glandular Fever

Glandular Fever is caused by a virus called the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV). The virus is typically spread by close contact and droplets which is why in the past it was known as “kissing disease”. There also seems to be a peak in incidence in older teenagers—reaffirming the “kissing” association.

Symptoms can vary but include low energy, night sweats, recurrent coughs and colds. Diagnosis is confirmed on a blood test detecting the presence of EBV antibodies. You can be a  carrier of EBV with no symptoms as it often lies dormant.

On the Gold Coast in April 2006 there were 15 cases detected using blood tests (QLM data only). This is down on Feb/March numbers but it is now that I am seeing people with the recurrent coughs and colds. If left untreated, or if you try to keep exercising and working as per normal—you may experience recurrent infections, low energy and may develop chronic fatigue. It is best to listen to your body, slow down, keep warm and boost your immunity. We use high powered immune boosters at Sanxing but at home you can cook with extra garlic, eat more citrus foods (Vit C) and try olive leaf extract.

I have treated approximately 12 people this winter with EBV and use a combination of microcurrent and immune boosters. Treatment makes a big difference to recovery
